Beyond the borders

When DÜRR Austria was commissioned to realize the city tunnel Sheikh Zayed in Abu Dhabi in October 2009, the starting signal for international projects was done by creation of a partnership with an international active Italian partner. Project and site management, control and safety technology as well as video surveillance were one of the main tasks of our team within the framework of this project, which was running until December 2012.

The Sheikh Zayed Tunnel

With 4 lanes and a length of 2.5 km this city tunnel is amongst the largest projects of high technical quality in the Middle East. With additionally 1.2 km of open land route, 2 road bridges and a daily traffic volume of roughly 50,000 cars, the traffic flow in the centre of Abu Dhabi has considerably eased. About 220 cameras programmed for event detection and 133 PTZ cameras ensure a complete traffic monitoring and are crucial for the safety of road users in case of an emergency.
