Second tube for Lainberg Tunnel
With the total expansion and the refurbishment of the Lainbergtunnel and the immediate downstream of the short tunnel, a bottleneck on the A9 Phyrn motorway was defused. In this way the road section between Upper Austria and Styria has become an attractive alternative to the A10 Tauern motorway, also through the Welser Westspange and the tunnel chain Klaus. The whole project was equipped with new state-of-the-art safety equipment. In August 2008 after a construction time of about one and a half years both tubes were opened for one-way traffic.
Challenges during the parallel construction
The construction and installation of the electrical and safety equipment were carried out simultaneously due to the framework conditions of this project. Time schedules of the construction were prepared in detail and had to be coordinated and harmonized in line with the construction schedule. The project was thus proceeding smoothly as scheduled.
