The second tube for the Tauern Tunnel

With the total expansion of the new tube of the Tauern tunnel and the refurbishment of the existing tube, a bottleneck on the A10 Tauern motorway was defused. In this way the road section between Salzburg and Carinthia has become an attractive connection North-South connection, also through the total expansion of the Katschberg tunnel. The whole project was equipped with new state-of-the-art safety equipment. In June 2011 after a construction time of three years both tubes were opened for one-way traffic.

Central surveillance without a gap

Inside the tubes and on parts of the open road there are a lot of CCTV cameras to ensure a complete surveillance. Via an auto selector speeding vehicles can therefore be traced automatically. Additionally important incidents such as tunnel fire can be recorded and stored. The whole incident will also be recorded by the system. Also traffic information such as congestions, gridlocks, wrong way drivers, etc. will be evaluated and processed.
