Traffic relief of the Regional Capital Bregenz - the Pfänder tunnel
March 2011 – after the official assignment by ASFINAG, the start of our activities at the Pfänder tunnel occurred. Another milestone for Dürr Austria in terms of implementation of large tunnel projects in Austria.
The Pfänder tunnel, a road tunnel in the course of the Austrian Rhine Valley/Walgau-motorway A14 serves as a bypass and thus as a traffic relief of the regional capital of Vorarlberg, Bregenz. The 6718 meter long tunnel was the first time released to traffic on 10 December 1980 as a one-tube tunnel. Steadily rising traffic volume lastly lead to the groundbreaking on 28 April 2006 for the second tube. The entire tunnel system will be brought to the highest electrical and safety standards. The project management activities at Dürr are already in full swing. The completion of the tunnel tubes is carried out in two stages, whereas the new tunnel tube shall be released for operation with ongoing traffic in autumn 2012; the complete tunnel will be completed in both traffic directions in fall of 2013.
