A62, Hörnchenberg Tunnel near Landstuhl: state-of-the-art safety technology

Despite the unusually long, cold winter and an additional 10 months of construction and 19 years after the tunnel was first opened, the retrofit of the operational and safety equipment in the two 512 and 536 metre tunnel tubes was completed to schedule and the tunnels were fully reopened for traffic on 7 June 2010.

The tunnels’ fire water supply, safety equipment and central guidance and control system are now all state-of-the-art!
