A "split" city breathes again: Winnenden bypass is opened for traffic

After more than 30 years in the planning and three years in the building, the new stretch of the B14, the Winnenden bypass, has finally been completed.

At an official event attended by high ranking politicians and in the full glare of the media spotlight, the two 1,080 m Leutenbach tunnel tubes were opened for traffic on 21 September 2009 following a blessing and a celebratory procession through the tunnels.

A few days beforehand, local residents were invited to an Open Tunnel Day to celebrate this joyful event with music, food and drink and entertainment by local clubs.
